Charlotte, NC Engagement (Wes & Camilla)
[Written By Camilla]
“It all started when we both swiped right. After getting to know each other on the League, Wes asked me on our first date to Merchant & Trade, a rooftop bar in uptown Charlotte. I was excited he picked somewhere new and cool to try with beautiful views. Sure enough, Merchant & Trade didn’t disappoint, and neither did Wes. We talked for hours effortlessly on our first date over craft cocktails. The connection was there right from the beginning, and we both knew we wanted to see each other again.
For the next several months, we went on all sorts of great dates that Wes came up with, including axe throwing, which I had been dying to do! We quickly realized we had so much in common, including our love for good food, tequila, traveling, outdoor activities, and spending time with our families and friends. We went on one date at Suffolk Punch, one of our favorite places to eat in Charlotte, where we had a feast of about every small plate on the menu, and spicy mango margs. Stuffed, we walked down the Rail Trail, and then Wes asked me to be his girlfriend. We were both on cloud nine and happy we both felt so strongly about each other. Our relationship kept growing stronger and stronger. We started spending more and more time together, with each other’s friends and families, and traveling all over the world to places like Croatia and Mexico.
Fast forward almost two years, to December 7, 2019, which was the absolute best day. Wes tricked me into going to Merchant & Trade for drinks with my best friend and her fiancé after we helped her move out of her apartment. I was surprised when we got there and Wes had made a reservation for us. The hostess led Wes and I towards the most gorgeous bouquet of flowers I’d ever seen, along with champagne and glasses in a private spot on the rooftop overlooking uptown. At first I was thinking, “wait, is it happening?!?” Or “is this not for me?!” Before I knew it, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him, back in the same spot where it all had started. I was shaking with excitement, and that was the happiest moment of my life. Soon after, both of our families and best friends were there to celebrate with us. The proposal was the first time I’ve been genuinely surprised, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect way to get engaged. Now we are counting down the days until our wedding, and we are so excited to start the rest of our lives together as husband and wife!”
